Oh Garland!

Instead of a Christmas tree, try adding garland to decorate your space. You can make things festive by adding lights to give your home that romantic glow. You can even add ornaments and greeting cards for a bit more interest. In the picture, you can see we’ve added a mix of both. If you don’t have a garland already, they are relatively inexpensive. At Michael’s you can get a strand of garland between $3-$10. In some cases you can string them together to make things longer. Hang it over an archway, banister, or mantel then start decorating.

Runners and Placemats Oh My!

Decorating your table is one of the easiest ways to set the tone in your home. Add holiday themed placemats and/or runners to get things going. You can even use a few of the previous suggestions to give your table more flare. Right now you can get a set of chargers at Michael's for under $2 per piece. Not to mention the cute votives and candles you may just have lingering around the house. If you’re not into placemats just add a runner down the center of your table, then add a tablescape, poinsettia, or bulb filled vessel to help add some accents.

Ornaments and lights all aglow.

Make your dining table and home more festive by placing a few of your favorite ornaments and bulbs in a clear vessel. Then tuck in a few battery operated light packs to make things glow. This is perfect for table scapes and no fuss mantel decorating. Extra points if you add the garland around the base. This time of the season stores are always selling ornaments for a fraction of the cost so you can pick up a couple boxes for around $5-$15, if you don’t already have some.

By adding flowers to your home you’ll be adding life and a touch of luxury to your entertainment space. Fall and winter carry some of the richest colors and the flowers you find during this time of year will give you the full spectrum. Not to mention a lot of grocery stores and markets have premade bunches you can add to your tables, bedroom and more. I even like to add a strand of Christmas lights around the base for that warm and fuzzy glow.

Run with color

Choose an accent color and run with it. If it’s Hanukkah, make it blue and silver, if it’s Christmas silver is great but how about gold and white or green? If it’s Kwanzaa, why not red and green? You can really play up your color theme and forgo buying a lot of randomly themed items like nutcrackers, snowmen, or reindeer. Plus solid colored pieces are timeless, classic, and perfect year after year. photo by Spiske M

Keep last year's holiday cards fresh, turn your previous years holiday cards into the perfect christmas tree. You can hang this on a blank wall or over a side table or buffet and it will provide the perfect backdrop for gift stacking. Cut out a paper star, or cut an old card into a star to stand at the top, then position the cards down in a tree shape. Use a longer more vertical card or two, to serve as the trunk of your tree. Inside not out

Hang your lights inside the window. Hanging lights outside and from the roof line can be a tedious and dangerous task. Not to mention the responsibility of going out in freezing weather to turn them on/off every evening. Why not just hang the lights from the inside for the same effect. That way you get to stay warm and cozy while shining your holiday spirit for everyone to see. You can use those mini 3M command hooks to help you frame the window. You can even leave these hooks up until Valentine’s day and hang red or pink lights in the window to give your neighbors those lovey feels.
