Every September, there is something in the air that seems to tell us it’s time to get back to something. The transition almost feels like a second New Year.
January arrives with resolutions and pressure to change everything. Fall feels different to me. It feels more like an invitation to take inventory.
Kids go back to school. Teachers head back to their classrooms. Vacations wind down. People return to the office. The air begins to change—and so does our mindset.
It’s time to reset by asking:
What still works?
What doesn’t?
What have I outgrown?
Who have I outgrown?
And most importantly, what brings me peace?
That’s what I mean by a Fall Refresh & Reset.
I’m not talking about turning your entire life upside down. In fact, I’m interested in doing just the opposite.
September whispers: It may be time for a fresh start.
But this fresh start isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about returning to yourself—the woman who may have gotten buried beneath responsibilities, caregiving, deadlines, disappointments, and the daily habit of putting herself on hold for someone or something else.
This is your invitation to refresh, reset, and begin your journey back to you.

When was the last time you got back to YOU?
Not back to a schedule.
Not back to work.
Not back to taking care of everyone else.
Back to you.
It Doesn’t Have to Be a Total Reinvention
As women, we hear a lot about reinventing ourselves as we get older.
I believe in reinvention. But I also believe there are times when we simply need to reconnect with the woman who got buried underneath responsibilities, expectations, busy schedules, and all the things life required of us.
Maybe she’s still there.
The woman who wanted to take a class, learn something new, or finally try that hobby.
The woman who enjoyed a peaceful morning without feeling guilty because she decided not to answer her phone or keep checking her email.
The woman who had dreams that had absolutely nothing to do with age limits.
Getting back to you isn’t about going backward. It’s about giving yourself permission to move forward unapologetically.

As I get older, I’m becoming much more interested in simplifying.
I don’t want more things just because I can buy them. I don’t want an overflowing closet when I already own pieces that work. I don’t want a schedule so full that there’s no room left for me. And I certainly don’t want to carry unnecessary stress into another season of my life.
I want to restyle, repurpose, and refresh what I already have—including myself.
Fall is the perfect time to shop your own closet. Refreshing your style doesn’t require buying an entirely new wardrobe. Look for ways to transition and restyle some of your summer favorites.
Could a favorite dress work for fall simply by adding boots and a jacket?
Could that scarf you’ve forgotten about become the pop of color that makes a basic outfit fabulous?
Could something you’ve labeled “old” become a favorite again when you style it differently?
That’s one of the things I love about style over fashion. Style reminds us that something doesn’t have to be new to feel renewed.
And that lesson applies to more than clothes.
Look around your home. Look at your routines. Look at how you’re spending your time.
Some things may simply need refreshing rather than replacing.
Refreshing Your Mindset and Your Surroundings
This season, I also want us to think about the spaces we can’t see:

Our mental space.
Our emotional space.
Our time.
Sometimes simplifying life isn’t about cleaning out another drawer. It’s about becoming more selective about what—and who—we allow to occupy our thoughts.
Maybe your fall reset means saying no without writing a paragraph explaining why.
Maybe it means putting your phone down earlier.
Maybe it’s reading the book that’s been sitting on your nightstand.
Maybe it’s learning something new.
Maybe it’s protecting the first 30 minutes of your morning for prayer, meditation, journaling, or simply sitting quietly with a cup of coffee.
Peace doesn’t always require a major life change.
Sometimes it begins with one small decision:
I’m going to make room for myself again.
Restart Your Self-Care

Self-care can become another task when we make it too complicated. It doesn’t have to mean an expensive spa day or even a getaway. Self-care can start right at home.
A setback can be a setup. Forgive yourself for the neglect and move forward with a new plan.
It might mean committing to drinking more water—something I’ve been working on myself.
It might mean scheduling the appointment you’ve postponed.
Sitting quietly before the day begins.
Moving your body.
Getting more rest.
Or saying no without feeling as though you owe anyone an explanation.
Some days self-care will mean movement. Other days it will mean rest—or simply having a day with no demands.
After years of anticipating what everyone else needs, learning to hear yourself again may take practice. That’s all right.
Returning to yourself is still progress, even when it happens slowly.
Refresh Your Environment
Sometimes our surroundings tell the story of just how busy life has become.
An empty chair becomes a holding place for clothes. A kitchen counter disappears beneath unopened mail. A closet holds items connected to lives we no longer live.
It doesn’t mean we’ve failed. Sometimes life has simply been lifing.
Choose one small area to reset: a nightstand, bathroom drawer, entryway, or corner of your bedroom.
Remove what no longer serves you. Wipe the surface clean. Return only what is useful, beautiful, or meaningful.
Then add one detail that feels like care—a candle, a favorite photograph, fresh flowers, a soft throw, or a pretty tray for the things you use every day.
You don’t have to transform your entire house in one weekend.
Peace can begin in one drawer. Beauty can return through one corner.
Your home shouldn’t only hold your belongings. It should also hold you.
Make Three Small Promises to Yourself
For this Fall Refresh & Reset, start with three simple promises:
- Refresh one part of your personal style. Wear, alter, donate, or restyle something this week.
- Reset one area of your home. Create a small space that gives you peace.
- Restart one act of self-care. Put it on your calendar and treat it as something that matters.
These actions may seem small, but small changes send a powerful message:
I am paying attention to my life again.
You don’t need to return to the younger woman you once were. Honor that woman, but don’t try to recreate her.
Restart a dream. Rearrange your home. Protect your peace. And choose what feels good now.
Your September Assignment: Get Back to You
Throughout September, we’re going to refresh more than our wardrobes.
We’re going to look at our style, our spaces, our self-care, and our mindset.
And we’re going to do it without the pressure to become some completely different woman by October.
Instead, ask yourself:
What part of me would I like to get back to?
Maybe you miss connecting with friends.
Your creativity.
Your personal style.
Your adventurous side.
Your quiet time.
Or perhaps you’re realizing that you don’t need to get back to the old you at all.
Getting back to you doesn’t mean returning to who you used to be.
It means returning to what matters to you now.
So while so many people are going back to school, back to work, and back to their regular routines, we’re going somewhere too.
We’re getting back to ourselves.
Welcome to September.
Welcome to your Fall Refresh & Reset.
And most importantly…
Welcome back to you.
Today’s Affirmation
I give myself permission to refresh my surroundings, restart my dreams, and return to the woman I am becoming.
Your Back to You Assignment: Choose one style, home, or self-care refresh to complete this week. Write it down, schedule it, and begin.
