New Year, New Attitude

Now class, what did we learn from the year 2020? If nothing else, we had some serious time to reflect. Although we did not have as many choices as we would have liked, we could choose how we spent our downtime.

It is said that it is not what happens to us that counts, it is how we handle situations that matter. It is all about our attitude.

Attitudes can determine our outlook on life and how we can survive and even thrive. As we move into the new year, it may be time to consider an attitude adjustment.

Many have lost lives, jobs, money, livelihood, family members, and friends due to COVID-19; yet you got the chance to not only evolve but to transform. So now, the ball is in your park.

Don’t spend too much time telling yourself that 2020 was a terrible year. Just kick up your heels and get going!

Here are some tips that may help you have a different attitude about your new outlook.

  1. Readjust your mindset. Keep in mind that we are what we think. Change your thought process as soon as you begin to feel sorry for yourself or engage in self-pity. When you begin to feel defeated, you may want to give up.
  2. Consider 2020 as a learning experience. Understand that you can only impact those things that you can change; you can only grow from other experiences…if you choose to.
  3. Opportunity Knocked. Think of 2020 as an opportunity for you to make some changes in your life and think about how you should Thprepare in case another disaster should come your way. Change takes change and remember, you can only change if you are willing to execute whatever is necessary to initiate those changes.
  4. The Attitude of Gratitude. Spend some time dedicated to gratitude. Do you know how many people who have been through greater devastations wish they were where you are today? Positive thoughts can lead to positive actions. Be thankful, and know that things could always be worse.
  5. Every Good Plan Starts with a Goal. Set your goals for 2021, and use 2020 as a motivator for the reason why you should NOT put off the things you really want to do. Don’t dwell on the setbacks of last year, but use the experience as a motivation to inspire you to do better this year.

Take a deep breath and make a commitment that this year indeed will be different. Unlike the many years that we started in the past, we proclaimed, “New year, new me!” only to drop our commitment and dedication and return to the same bad habits and behavior that served us no right.

We can’t keep restarting our two chapters, but we can fine-tune our attitude and jumpstart a plan of action to ignite a real change of perspective.
