I absolutely love the skirt that Felicia Renee Robinson wore to the Onyx Woman conference. The afro-centric pattern has fabulous details and a vibrant colorful print. This is a garment that can add style and function to your spring/summer wardrobe. Felicia paired the skirt with a solid black top so that the maxi skirt would be the focal point in all its radiance.
The fabric is from Senegal. It was purchased from Tracie Washington’s shop called The Queens Closet 831, located in Penn Hills.
You can also find similar skirts at Ujamaa Collective on Centre Avenue near Uptown. They carry their personal line called Royal Roots Collection.
The line was designed locally by Dawn Surgest of RubyDawn Designs, who is a member of the non-profit. They traveled to Karagwe, Tanzania, located in East Africa to have them produced fair trade by a group of women and young people. The fabrics are sourced from Uganda and Tanzania and feature beautiful, vibrant African prints, deep batiks, and one of a kind special occasion prints. Royal Roots include mini, midi and maxi skirts in sizes XS to XXL. They also carry an assortment of small clutch bags and wristlets that match the skirts, as well as bow ties (for neck or head) and neckties.
